The Living Room at Hotel Viking – Renovations Complete
“Look but don’t touch” may be the prevailing policy at the Gilded Age mansions lining Newport’s Bellevue Avenue, but The Living Room at Hotel Viking invites everyone to come on in and grab a seat.
The one-time lodging of choice for the well-to-do guests of Newport’s wealthy summer residents, Hotel Viking was conceived to meet the standards of those well-heeled — dare we say “stuffy” — patrons of genteel society. But step beyond the hotel’s imposing 1926 brick façade and you’ll discover the 21st century hub of Newport’s social scene.
Joining the ultimate rooftop-bar-with-a-view, Top of Newport, and One Bellevue’s snug fireplaced patio, The Living Room adds a new dimension to Hotel Viking’s appeal as the place to meet, greet and eat. Reopened in March following a meticulously orchestrated renovation designed to respect the historic setting while giving it a boost of contemporary styling, The Living Room completes the natural flow between the hotel’s lobby and dining room. Conversation-style seating clusters, wireless Internet connectivity and a light-fare menu create an inviting space to grab a cup of coffee and check email, hang out with friends over a light lunch or conduct an informal business meeting.
The Living Room is just one element of a larger renovation leading up Hotel Viking’s 90th anniversary in May 2016. The hotel’s elegant ballrooms and function spaces also received a facelift. Fear not: Like any good makeover, the changes are subtle, designed to refresh the décor with lighter, brighter colors and fixtures without compromising the historic integrity of the elegant special-event spaces. The hotel dining room also offers a fresh look created to complement its new menu.
Walls came tumbling down to create this contemporary meeting space in sync with its historic setting. So much for look-but-don’t-touch!!
