My husband and I got married in the Kay Chapel on February 11th, 2012. My husband sofia and I were united as a family. This is the day that we became united as a family. We stayed at the Hotel Viking in the marble room suite for 4 days after. It still remain to be one of the best days of my life!
A romantic weekend away from our kids. The hotel is always so accommodating to us. The wine and strawberries were compliments of the staff. We have been going there every February for 10 years. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
Our wedding ceremony was at Kay chapel and our reception was in the Bellevue ballroom. Every time we are in Newport together we stop in front of the chapel for a smooching selfie recreation of this photo…minus the dress and tux of course.
The Hotel Viking holds a special place in my heart. I have planned five events here and the folks at this hotel are so warm and welcoming. There have been many weekend trips planned with my closest friends at the Hotel Viking and it feels like coming home.
Two years ago I broke my leg and I have had 20 surgeries since then. One of the first places I went to celebrate that my health is finally improving was the Hotel Viking. We stayed in the Marble Suite, ate at One Bellevue, had tea service, and enjoyed a facial at the spa. I was able to catch up with some fabulous folks at the hotel and it was a great weekend.
This picture was taken during a visit a few years ago when I had a quiet moment to myself. I was sitting in the courtyard and it was October and I was admiring the flowers that were still in bloom! I absolutely love the pineapple lamps, it says, come sit and be welcome to me.
In the late sixties, I was in a band called the Jay Walkers. We were the first band to have a gig at the Viking. The manager at that time was Leonard Scalzi. I have such fond memories of my time there and performing in the Skoal Room. The stars would would come in after their performances at the festivals. It was just a magical time. I still get back to Newport as often as I can. The Viking and Newport will always have a place in my heart.
I don’t have a photo but I love sitting at the rooftop bar spectacular at dusk and eating outside is so relaxing in the courtyard love it there keep up the great work for another 90 years.
Tim Shuman and I were married at the Hotel Viking on April 16,2016. After we graduated college, Tim moved to Newport to be with me and find work. He has gone to Johnson and Wales University and was looking for cooking positions. He had previously submitted his resume to the Viking at a job fair. One day he got a phone call to come in for an interview! He started working at the Hotel Viking in the fall of 2013 as a line cook. He worked banquets, One Bellevue and Top of Newport. Once we got engaged in October 2014, we knew there was no place else we would want to get married. The Viking will always be a special place as the place we got married and the place Tim really grew his cooking skills. We absolutely love it there and have such fond memories. Although Tim has moved on in his career, he made life long connections. This photo is from the night of our wedding in the hallway leading to the Viking ballroom.
I had moved from London to NYC in 1996 and my husband was one of the first people I bonded with. We became fast friends and he often took me to Newport, Rhode Island to meet his friends and family. I fell in love with Newport the first time I stepped foot there. It felt like home.
I had always walked past the Hotel Viking, wondering how it looked inside. I was very curious but never went in ‚until the weekend of my wedding. That Rhode Island boy proposed to me and my dream was to get married in Newport and stay at the Hotel Viking. We got married at the Astors Beechwood Mansion August 9th 2009, and we stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Viking. The hotel (and staff) far exceeded my expectations. It was as beautiful inside as I knew it would be. It was the best weekend of my life.
Our wedding fell during the Newport Jazz Festival and you guys were beyond swamped with guests coming in and out of the hotel. Even so, the staff at The Viking went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and comfortable. Following the wedding, our entire wedding party came back to the Hotel Viking with us and we enjoyed cocktails on that beautiful Summer evening, sitting on those lovely Adirondack chairs, chatting about the wedding and we didn’t want the weekend to end. Seven years and one beautiful 4 year old daughter later and we are still in love with each other and the Hotel Viking. It is such a special place for us and we try to visit as often as we can. My sister and her husband (who still live in London) are flying to the USA and visiting the Hotel Viking with us this coming September. They fell in love with Newport and your beautiful hotel during our wedding too, and they are so excited to be coming back. Thank you for reading my story and for being such a big part of our lives. I am now excited to share Newport and the Hotel Viking with my daughter. Maybe she will fall in love with Newport and the Hotel Viking like we have and stay with you during her wedding one day too? Until then, we will see you in September!
We were married at the Kay Chapel following with a reception on New Year’s Eve 2012. It was a beautiful, intimate evening. All guests commented that it was the best New Year’s Eve they have ever experienced. Many guests frequently ask when are we going to renew our vows so they can go back. Thank you Hotel Viking for making our wedding an unforgettable evening.
Three years ago, I pulled into the valet parking and the valet came up to my car and said, “Mrs. Gambardella?” I said, “no, Greenspan.” He said, “Mr. Gambardella took care of your car.” I was like what are you talking about? Then the guy in car in front of mine came up to my window and said, “You are sooo beautiful. Do want to meet me on the roof for a cocktail?” I remember sitting in my car with both hands on my steering wheel like, did that just happen? It must have been awhile because he came back again and asked if I was going to get out of the car. I said yes and went upstairs to have a drink and we have been together ever since.
This photo was taken on the rooftop at the Hotel Viking. We had our wedding on 11/21/15. Photo by Cregg Annarino Photography. This will always be a special hotel to us…. thanks for the memories!
About a year ago my husband and I got married atHotel Viking. Following in the footsteps of my great grandmother who got married in the original hotel over 70 years ago. On our one year anniversary we came back and saw the newly renovated hotel that though different, was every bit as beautiful. We can’t wait to watch Hotel Viking continue to develop and change over the next years and with every alteration, look back on our marriage and appreciate how we too have grown and changed.
Born and Raised on the island it’s pretty easy to be tied to a few spots more than others. #TheHotelViking has popped up at random points in my life. My grandparents lived off Bellevue so on walks as a young kid I’d always look up to the majestic hotel. Later my sister had one of the best wedding receptions I’ve ever seen in their huge now renovated basement ballroom. Years later I would take pictures at and stay here for my own wedding. Many years after that I started the @igersnewport feed and the hotel was the first local business to really support it and want to be affiliated with it. I value the relationship and it’s really become a peak point in my own #HotelVikingStory.
We stayed at the Hotel Viking a few years ago for our anniversary and had a wonderful experience. The accommodations, the staff, the atmosphere- everything was perfect!
I was born and raised in Bridgewater, MA. My now fiancé is from Vermont. Only fitting we found out about this through Long Trails Instagram post. Almost exactly a year ago, I had my first and most memorable Viking Hotel experience. I was traveling to Rhode Island for work and decided to stay the weekend to visit 2nd beach with my family and close friends. We grew up boating with my parents and spent many of our summers in Newport, it’s always been such a special place to us. I thought my fiancé was in Philadelphia, where we now live.
As we arrived at the beach, my then boyfriend was waiting at lifeguard chair 6. To say the least I was so surprised to see him there, then he got on one knee and proposed. We were so blessed to spend the weekend in Newport with our family and closest friends. The final surprise was spending the night at the Viking Hotel. The first night we ever spend as engaged couple was such a special experience there. We will never forget how special that night was to us. We got engaged 8/12/15 and we hope to return to celebrate that anniversary to our favorite spot in our favorite little city.
My husband and I met on e-Harmony in 2009. In 2013 we eloped to Rhode Island and honeymooned in the elegant Hotel Viking and got married in the hotel’s Kay Chapel. Our hotel event coordinator, Linda, went above and beyond to make my day wonderful. The suite we stayed in was luxurious. The staff was overly attentive, including the bellhops. Our wedding dinner at One Bellevue was delicious…Frederico is the best! We also had a couples massage at Spa Terre which was amazing. Would love to come back again to make more memories and be able to take advantage of the Top of Newport Bar. Thank you!
August 18 2013, we got married at the Hotel Viking. And every year since then, on our anniversary we come back for a wonderful dinner and to recreate one of our favorite wedding photos. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect venue!
Our story begins 18 years ago when I met Lee Abney, he was working at the hotel Viking as a front desk agent. he instantly won me over with his charisma, sense of humor and great looks. A year later we were tieing the knot and stayed at the Viking for our honeymoon. It was the best experience, we were young and in love and the Viking made us feel so welcomed. We went on to travel as I was in the Air Force. We stayed in many different hotels none that compares to the Vikings hospitality. We have 2 beautiful daughters Sierra and jade. My career switched gears and Lee was always in the hospitality industry so we made a choice to come back to RI. After our return, Lee picked up photography and was again involved with Viking. Last year I went to my first Instameet at the Viking as I began photographing as well and it all came full circle. The Viking has been a part of our lives through out. This August Lee and I will be celebrating 17 year anniversary. I have fond memories of the Viking as it has such a presence in our lives.
Nine years ago, 2007, I brought my wife to the Viking for her 40th birthday and planned the entire weekend through Sharon Longo. She was amazing and took care of our every need and one or two we didn’t even request. She set up a helicopter tour of the island, our couples spa treatment, gave us the name of a bakery to order a cake from and even had cookies and milk waiting for us when we came back in for the evening. I understand she is no longer with you and that is truly a loss. But that memory still remains.
My wife and I will be celebrating 9 years this December and it would be fantastic to be selected to spend two days in the same place we honeymooned. Thank you.
